Joshua 1

Timeframe of the events of the book of Joshua = 1370 BC - 1330 BC

1. Joshua was trained by the Lord
2. Joshua was a minister to Moses
  • In Hebrew "minister" means "servant"
  • I am a minister of God
Joshua 1:7-8
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful."

  • In summary, Joshua (and you & I) will only be successful when He mediates on the Bible, like a cow shewing it's cud.

Joshua 2

Rahab is referenced as faithful in the "Hall of Faith" AKA Hebrews 11

Types of faith:
1. Saving faith
  • God saved her because she believed
2. Faith that works
  • She took the steps to save the spies
3. Singular faith
  • She was he only one in Jericho who believed
4. Stable faith
  • Her faith went against all logic
5. Self-denying faith
  • She didn't care if she was in danger; she followed God
6. Sympathizing faith
  • She cared enough about her unbelieving family that she knew God would save them too
7. Sanctifying faith
  • To be sanctified means to be set apart. Even though she was a prostitute God changed her life. He turned her life around. She was set apart from who she had been because she set her faith in God. Not on the past, not the culture of the day, not the peer pressure, not the expectations of others. Set apart for God.
